1. Problem: Uneven Subfloors and Stubborn Surface Coatings

 

 

  • The Problem: Before installing new commercial flooring or applying fresh concrete sealers, the subfloor must be perfectly flat and free of old adhesives. Using manual scrapers or standard abrasive flap discs to level uneven concrete joints, remove cured epoxy, or grind away hardened thinset is incredibly slow and destroys standard abrasives within minutes.

2. Cause: Abrasive Degradation and Inefficient Dust Clearance

6. Operation and Safety Guidelines

 

 

  • Mandatory Dust Extraction: Grinding dry concrete produces hazardous respirable crystalline silica dust. This wheel MUST be used in conjunction with a dedicated angle grinder dust shroud connected to an industrial HEPA vacuum system.

  • Grinding Angle: Do not lay the grinder completely flat. Hold the angle grinder at a slight 5 to 15-degree angle to the work surface. This allows the diamond segments to "bite" into the material and allows the dust to escape through the cooling holes.

  • Let the Tool Work: Do not apply excessive downward pressure. The heavy weight of the angle grinder combined with the extreme hardness of the diamonds is sufficient. Forcing the tool will only cause the motor to burn out and the cup wheel to glaze over.

 

 

7. FAQ: Expert Technical Support

 

 

Q: Should I buy the Double Row or the Turbo/Spiral cup wheel?

 

A: If your goal is to remove material as fast as possible (like taking off a thick layer of old thinset or grinding down a large concrete bump), choose the Double Row. It is aggressive and fast but leaves a rougher surface. If you are preparing a floor for a thin coating or polishing, choose the Turbo/Spiral. It removes material slightly slower but leaves a much smoother, scratch-free finish.

 

Q: Can I use this diamond cup wheel to grind metal or steel rebar?

 

A: No. This metal-bonded diamond tool is formulated strictly for masonry, concrete, and stone. If you attempt to grind exposed steel rebar or metal pipes protruding from the concrete, the metal-on-metal friction will instantly melt the binder and rip the diamond segments off the steel core.

 

 

Q: Why did my cup wheel stop grinding and become smooth?

 

A: This is called "glazing over," which happens when the metal binder holding the diamonds doesn't wear away fast enough, usually caused by grinding concrete that is too soft or applying too much pressure. To fix this, grind into a highly abrasive material (like a standard cinder block or specialized dressing stone) for a few seconds to wear down the metal binder and expose a fresh layer of sharp diamonds.
