First, locate the nameplate on your existing motor. This is your most important source of truth. You must verify:
Voltage & Phase: Common voltages are 115V or 230V, single-phase. Warning: Operating a motor on incorrect voltage will cause it to burn out.
Horsepower (HP) or Wattage: The replacement motor must have an equal or slightly higher rating. Use conversion: 1 HP ≈ 746 Watts.
RPM (Speed): Match the full-load RPM exactly (e.g., 1075 RPM). A different speed will drastically affect airflow and system balance.
Amperage (FLA): The new motor's Full Load Amps should be equal to or greater than the original.
Frequency (Hz): Match your power supply (60Hz in North America, 50Hz elsewhere).
A motor that doesn't fit physically cannot be installed. Check:
Frame Size & Type: This standardizes dimensions (e.g., 42 Frame, 48 Frame). Match it exactly.
Shaft Specifications: Measure the diameter (common: 1/2" or 12.7mm), length, and check for a keyway.
Mounting Bracket/Holes: Ensure the bolt hole pattern matches your FCU housing.
Rotation Direction: Confirm if you need Clockwise (CW) or Counter-Clockwise (CCW) rotation. Many motors are reversible.
