Etching, also known as chemical etching or photo-chemical machining, is a precision manufacturing process used to create complex metal components. The process begins with cleaning the metal and laminating it with a light-sensitive photoresist. A high-resolution image of the part is then exposed onto the photoresist using UV light. The unexposed areas of the resist are washed away, leaving a protective mask on the metal. The exposed metal is then chemically dissolved in a controlled environment, creating the precise feature. Finally, the remaining protective mask is stripped away, revealing a finished, burr-free shim. This method allows for the creation of intricate designs without altering the physical or magnetic properties of the source material.
