The TPS715a low dropout (LDO) linear regulator is a low quiescent current device that offers the benefits of a wide input voltage range and low power operation in a tiny package.Therefore, the TPS715A is designed for battery-powered applications and can be used as a power management accessory for low-power microcontrollers.The TPS715A is available in both fixed and adjustable voltage versions.For greater flexibility or higher output voltages, the adjustable voltage version uses an external feedback resistor to set the output voltage from 1.205 V to 15 V.The TPS715A LDO supports a low voltage drop of 650 mV (typical) at a load current of 80 mA.The low quiescent current (3.2 μA typical) is stable over the entire output load current range (0 mA to 80 mA).The TPS715A (new chip) also has an internal soft start to reduce inrush current.Built-in overcurrent limiting helps protect the regulator in the event of a load short circuit or fault.
