The Pulse Electronics PH9384.XXXNL and PM2185.XXXNL series are toroidal isolation power transformers designed for push-pull converter topologies. These transformers deliver up to 3W of power across a high withstand voltage insulation barrier and are compatible with a wide range of push-pull drivers, such as the TI SN650x family, offering a low-cost solution for isolating power from low-voltage sources. The output voltage is determined by the input voltage and turns ratio, allowing for various output voltage selections. They feature reinforced insulation (IEC62368-1) and UL 60950-1 certification for certain models, with 8mm creepage and clearance and 4KVrms isolation (850 Vpk rated voltage). These transformers are patented (US Pat 9,646,755).

1. The ET Max is calculated to limit the core loss and temperature rise at 200KHz based on a bipolar flux swing of 210mT Peak. This value needs to be derated for higher frequencies using the temperature rise calculation to remain with operating temperature range.
2. A. To calculate total copper loss (W), use the following formula: Copper Loss (W) = Irms_Primary * DCR_Primary + Irms_Secondary * DCR_Secondary
B. To calculate total core loss (W), use the following formula: Core Loss (W) = 2.31E-11 * (Frequency in kHz) * (210 * [ET/ET Max]). Where ET is the applied Volt Second, ET Max is the rated Volt Second for 210mT flux swing.
C. To calculate temperature rise, use the following formula: Temperature Rise (C) = 130 * (Core Loss(W) + Copper Loss (W))
3. For Push-Pull topology, where the voltage is applied across half the primary winding turns, the ET needs to be derated by 50% for the same flux swing.
4. Creepage and clearance is in accordance with IEC 61558-1 and IEC61558-2-16 for reinforced insulation to a working voltage of 300Vrms (for basic insulation to a working voltage of 800Vrms) based on material group III, pollution degree 2, OVC II and 5000m altitude.
5. 850Vpk rated voltage is based on a positive partial discharge test (discharge < 10pC), in accordance with IEC60664 for basic insulation. In an application which requires a reinforced insulation barrier, a rated voltage of 650Vpk is defined and confirmed by partial discharge testing.
