High-power common-mode inductance T1515 vertical flat wire design for superior EMI filtering performance.
The common mode inductor functions as a bidirectional filter, effectively eliminating common mode electromagnetic interference from signal lines while simultaneously suppressing its own electromagnetic emissions. This ensures optimal performance without affecting other electronic devices operating in the same electromagnetic environment.
While ideal inductor models concentrate all magnetic flux at the coil center, practical toroidal coils may exhibit magnetic flux leakage due to incomplete or loose winding. Common mode inductors feature two windings separated by a significant gap, creating flux leakage that generates differential mode inductance. This inherent characteristic provides common mode inductors with additional capability to attenuate differential mode interference.
Filter design can strategically utilize this leakage inductance. A single common mode inductor installation can leverage its leakage inductance to generate appropriate differential mode inductance, effectively suppressing differential mode currents. In some applications, deliberately increasing the common mode choke coil's leakage inductance enhances differential mode inductance for superior filtering performance.
