Internal Bumper Function
Purpose of Air Spring Bumper
The internal bumper provides a mechanical stop as the air spring approaches its compressed condition, preventing excessive collapse and limiting bellows movement under specific operating conditions.
Without Bumper
Air springs without internal bumpers rely on external load, air pressure, and equipment design to control compression and movement, making the operating range more dependent on overall system configuration.
With Bumper
Air springs with internal bumpers have a defined mechanical stop at the compression end, establishing minimum travel conditions and reducing the risk of excessive bellows collapse when properly selected and operated.
For replacement applications, verify whether the original air spring uses a bumper configuration. The replacement must provide adequate restoring force at minimum height and sufficient clearance from surrounding components throughout the working stroke.
