The Introduction of Pneumatic Rubber Bellows
Bellows air springs have successfully solved vibration and noise problems in many industrial applications. They are also frequently used in vehicles as seat suspension and vibration isolation elements. In these applications, the properties of the air spring can be controlled by varying the internal overpressure. This allows a constant distance between the road surface and the vehicle underside to be maintained, even with changing vehicle loads (air springs in trucks, vans, and buses). Air springs can also be used as pneumatic actuators in many areas, for example, in lifting platforms, car jacks, clamping devices for paper machines, tensioning devices for belt conveyors, clamping devices for industrial adhesives, clutch and brake shoe control devices for cars and trucks, etc. Bellows are an important means of eliminating technical vibrations and sound insulation. Air springs are also used in pantographs.
