Magnesium Chrome Brick – High-Temperature Refractory up to 2000°C for Furnace Linings
Our Magnesium Chrome Brick is a high-performance refractory product composed mainly of magnesia (MgO) and chromium oxide (Cr₂O₃), with periclase and spinel as the primary mineral phases. Manufactured using high-purity sintered magnesia and chromite, it offers exceptional resistance to extreme temperatures, slag corrosion, thermal shock, and chemical erosion. Suitable for continuous service above 2000°C, it is widely used in steelmaking, cement kilns, non-ferrous metallurgy, and petrochemical industries.
Available in two main categories — Common Magnesia Chrome Brick and Direct-Bonded Magnesia Chrome Brick — our products cover a range of MgO and Cr₂O₃ compositions to match specific application requirements. Direct-bonded grades feature higher refractoriness under load (1700°C) and improved thermal expansion characteristics, making them suitable for the most demanding high-temperature environments where structural integrity is critical.

Why Choose Our Products?
Extreme Temperature Resistance - Withstands temperatures exceeding 2000°C, making it ideal for high-temperature industrial processes in steelmaking, cement production, and non-ferrous metallurgy.
Excellent Slag and Corrosion Resistance - Resists basic slag, alkalis, and chemical erosion in harsh environments, extending lining life and reducing maintenance frequency.
Superior Thermal Shock Resistance - Maintains structural integrity under rapid temperature fluctuations without cracking, ensuring reliable performance during thermal cycling.
High Mechanical Strength - Excellent cold crushing strength and load-bearing capacity at high temperatures, providing structural stability in demanding furnace applications.
Primary Applications
Steel Industry - Converters, electric arc furnaces, ladles, tundishes, reheating furnaces, and refining vessel linings where high-temperature resistance and slag corrosion resistance are critical.
Cement Industry - Rotary kiln linings, preheaters, clinker coolers, and transition zones where basic slag attack and thermal cycling are severe.
Non-Ferrous Metallurgy - Copper, aluminum, zinc, and lead smelting furnaces where chemical erosion and high temperatures demand premium refractory materials.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q1: What is the difference between Common and Direct-Bonded Magnesia Chrome Brick?
The main difference lies in the bonding mechanism and resulting performance. Common Magnesia Chrome Brick uses a silicate bond, offering good thermal shock resistance and cost-effectiveness for general high-temperature applications. Direct-Bonded Magnesia Chrome Brick forms direct bonds between periclase and spinel grains without a silicate matrix, resulting in higher refractoriness under load (1700°C vs. 1600°C), better thermal expansion characteristics, and superior high-temperature strength. Direct-bonded grades are recommended for more demanding applications where structural integrity at extreme temperatures is critical.
Q2: How do I select the right grade for my furnace?
Selection depends on your operating temperature, slag chemistry, thermal cycling frequency, and mechanical stress conditions. MGe6 and DMGe4 offer higher MgO content for applications requiring maximum resistance to basic slag. MGe12, MGe16, DMGe12, and DMGe16 provide higher Cr₂O₃ content for improved thermal shock resistance and corrosion resistance in more aggressive environments. Please provide your design specifications for a tailored recommendation.
Q3: Is this product suitable for use in cement rotary kilns?
Yes. Our Magnesium Chrome Brick is widely used in cement rotary kiln linings, particularly in the burning zone and transition zones where high temperatures and basic slag attack are prevalent. The Direct-Bonded grades are especially suitable for these applications due to their superior thermal shock resistance and high-temperature strength.
