The alumina (Al₂O₃) content in mullite insulating bricks typically ranges from 40% to 80%, with the mullite content increasing in proportion to the alumina level. Pure mullite has a theoretical composition of approximately 71.8% Al₂O₃ and 28.2% SiO₂ and a melting point of 1850°C. Varieties with lower alumina content may contain small amounts of glassy phase and other impurities, whereas high-purity varieties enhance high-temperature performance by minimizing iron oxide and alkali metal content.
