Vicor's DCM3717 products are non-isolated regulated DC/DC converters for bridging legacy 12 V systems with more efficient 48 V buses. The DCM3717 converters operate from a semi-regulated input range of 40 V to 60 V to generate a regulated 12 V output adjustable range of 10 V to 12.5 V with a choice of two power levels, 750 W or 1 kW. The DCM3717 is available in the surface-mount converter housed in package (SM-ChiP) configuration utilizing the patented high-frequency zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) buck-boost regulator stage followed by the sine amplitude converter (SAC). These non-isolated DCMs consistently deliver high efficiency across their specified input line range. Modular DCM converters used independently or with downstream point-of-load (PoL) products support efficient power distribution (PD), providing superior power system performance and connectivity from a variety of power sources to the PoL.
Data centers, advanced industrial markets, and rugged COTS applications are deploying 48 V power delivery networks (PDNs) as system power levels continue to increase. 48 V-based architectures maximize power network efficiency while maintaining safety extra low voltage (SELV) levels. The growing use of 48 V PDNs requires compatibility for powering legacy 12 V systems and infrastructure. Conventional 1/8 and 1/4 open-frame brick converters are large, bulky, and do not meet the power density needs of advanced systems. In addition, conventional converter topologies have inefficiencies that can reduce the 48 V distribution gains. Applications such as large scale LED displays, radars, robots, and automatic test equipment (ATE) take advantage of 48 V PD but have multiple lower power 12 V-based loads. Providing power system engineers with a high density, easy-to-use 48 V to 12 V power module simplifies their designs and power system footprints.
