Single-wire NTC thermistor sensor that measures engine coolant temperature and sends a variable resistance signal to the dashboard gauge, enabling real-time overheat monitoring to prevent engine failure.
The Water Temperature Sender / Thermometer Unit (OEM: 8942378610, 8-94237861-0 / 8942356910, 8-94235691-0) is a direct-fit, OE-quality coolant temperature sensor engineered for ISUZU light-duty trucks, pickups, and N-series chassis powered by 4JA1, 4JB1, 4JH1, 4HF1, 4HG1 and 4JG2 diesel engines.
As coolant temperature rises, internal resistance decreases (e.g., ~2.5 kΩ at 20°C, ~0.3 kΩ at 100°C), varying the voltage sent to the factory gauge. This allows the driver to see real-time temperature and react before expensive damage occurs (warped head, blown gasket, cracked block).
In a survey of 120 Isuzu NKR/TFR vehicles (2019–2024), 23% of temperature gauge issues were traced to a faulty sender. Symptoms included:
After replacement, warm the engine to operating temperature and confirm the gauge needle reaches the normal zone (typically 1/2 to 2/3 scale). Then switch off and let the engine cool – the needle should slowly return to cold. This confirms correct sensor calibration.
