Installation Notes
Professional installation required. Steering system safety is critical:
Raise and secure the vehicle - Safely lift the front of the vehicle and support on jack stands
Disconnect battery - Disconnect the negative battery cable before beginning work
Remove the steering column coupling - Disconnect the steering column from the steering gear input shaft
Remove the pitman arm - Remove the pitman arm from the steering gear output shaft
Remove the old steering gear - Unbolt and remove the steering gear from the chassis
Inspect steering linkages - Check the pitman arm, drag link, and tie rods for wear or damage
Clean mounting area - Clean the chassis mounting surface and surrounding area
Prepare the new steering gear - Inspect the new gear and verify it matches the original
Install the new steering gear - Position the new gear on the chassis and secure with mounting bolts
Torque to specification - Tighten mounting bolts to manufacturer specification
Install the pitman arm - Install the pitman arm onto the output shaft and torque to specification
Connect the steering column - Reconnect the steering column coupling to the input shaft
Reconnect battery - Reconnect the negative battery cable
Check steering operation - Test the steering for proper feel and response
Perform wheel alignment - Professional wheel alignment is recommended after installation
