Professional installation required. Steering system safety is critical.
Raise and secure the vehicle – Safely lift the front of the vehicle and support on jack stands
Disconnect battery – Disconnect the negative battery cable before beginning work
Drain power steering fluid – Drain the power steering fluid from the system
Disconnect fluid lines – Carefully disconnect the pressure and return lines from the steering gear
Disconnect the steering column – Remove the steering column coupling from the steering gear input shaft
Remove the old steering gear – Unbolt and remove the steering unit from the chassis
Inspect steering linkages – Check the pitman arm, drag link, and tie rods for wear or damage
Clean mounting area – Clean the chassis mounting surface and surrounding area
Prepare the new steering gear – Inspect the new unit and verify it matches the original
Install the new steering gear – Position the new unit on the chassis and secure with mounting bolts
Torque to specifiion – Tighten mounting bolts to manufacturer specifiion
Connect the steering column – Reconnect the steering column coupling to the input shaft
Reconnect fluid lines – Reconnect the pressure and return lines to the steering gear
Refill with power steering fluid – Fill the reservoir with the recommended type of fluid
Bleed the steering system – Bleed air from the system by turning the steering wheel lock-to-lock
Check for leaks – Start the engine and inspect all connections for fluid leakage
Check steering operation – Test the steering for proper feel and response
Perform wheel alignment – Professional wheel alignment is recommended after installation
Road test – Test drive the vehicle to verify smooth, responsive steering operation
