Installation Notes
Installation Steps (Overview):
Disconnect battery negative cable - then disconnect positive cable (if not secured)
Raise vehicle (if necessary) - to access starter on engine transmission joint
Disconnect the starter solenoid trigger wire - usually a small push-on terminal
Disconnect the main battery cable - heavy-gauge wire from the starter solenoid terminal
Remove mounting bolts - typically 2 bolts (often 16mm or 18mm). Note bottom bolt may be longer
Remove the old starter - wiggle and lower from the bell housing (may require rotating the unit)
Compare new starter with old - check bolt pattern, nose cone, pinion teeth (12T)
Install new starter - position into bell housing, hand-start bolts, then torque to specifiion (typically 60-80 Nm for heavy trucks)
Reconnect main battery cable - tighten securely
Reconnect solenoid trigger wire - push until it clicks
Reconnect battery cables (positive first, then negative)
Test start - engine should crank briskly. Listen for unusual noises
Check for leaks - starter doesn't contain fluid, but ensure proper seating
Quality Control
