Raise and secure the vehicle - Safely lift the rear axle and support on jack stands
Remove the rear wheels - Remove the rear wheels, brake drums, and hub assembly
Remove the old outer bearing - Carefully remove the old bearing from the hub using a bearing puller
Clean the hub bore - Thoroughly clean the hub bore, removing all old grease and debris
Inspect the hub and axle spindle - Check for scoring, pitting, or wear; repair or replace components as needed
Prepare the new bearing - Apply a thin coat of high-quality wheel bearing grease to the bearing
Install the new bearing - Press the new bearing into the hub bore using a proper bearing installation tool
Pack the hub with grease - Fill the hub cavity with the recommended grease
Install the hub assembly - Mount the hub onto the axle spindle
Install the inner bearing and seal - Install the inner bearing and new oil seal
Adjust bearing preload - Tighten the bearing nut to the specified torque and set end-play per service manual
Install the locking device - Install the cotter pin or locking tab to secure the bearing nut
Reinstall brake components and wheels - Reinstall the brake drums and wheels
Lower the vehicle - Lower the vehicle to the ground
Test operation - Test drive the vehicle and check for smooth operation and bearing noise
