How It Works
The starter consists of three main components: a DC series-wound motor, a solenoid switch (pull-in/hold-in coils), and a one-way clutch (Bendix Drive). When the ignition switch is turned to the "START" position, the solenoid energizes, pushing the pinion clutch forward to engage the 11-tooth drive gear with the engine flywheel ring gear. Simultaneously, the motor rotates under 24V power, delivering 4.5kW of power through the one-way clutch to the drive gear, turning the flywheel to start the engine. Once the engine starts, the flywheel speed exceeds the starter speed, and the one-way clutch overruns, automatically disengaging the starter from the flywheel to protect it from high-speed back-driving damage. This starter features clockwise rotation (CW).
