Professional engine builder or mechanic installation required:

1. Disconnect battery – Disconnect the negative battery cable before beginning work
2. Drain engine oil and coolant – Drain fluids as necessary for access to the timing cover
3. Remove front engine components – Remove the fan, radiator shroud, drive belts, and accessory components
4. Remove the harmonic balancer/crankshaft pulley – Use a puller to remove the crankshaft pulley/damper
5. Remove the old timing cover – Unbolt and carefully remove the timing cover
6. Remove old gasket – Clean the engine block sealing surface and remove all old gasket material
7. Inspect the timing components – Check timing gears/chain, tensioners, and guides for wear; replace as needed
8. Inspect the crankshaft seal – Replace the front crankshaft oil seal with a new one (recommended)
9. Clean thoroughly – Clean the engine block surface and the new timing cover thoroughly
10. Prepare the new timing cover – Install new gaskets and seals onto the new cover (if not pre-installed)
11. Apply sealant (if required) – Apply a thin bead of RTV/sealant to specified areas per the service manual
12. Position the new cover – Align the cover on the engine block
13. Install and torque bolts – Install bolts and tighten in a crisscross pattern to manufacturer specifiion
14. Reinstall the crankshaft pulley – Install the harmonic balancer/crankshaft pulley
15. Reinstall front components – Reinstall all front engine components in reverse order
16. Refill fluids – Refill engine oil and coolant to proper levels
17. Reconnect battery – Reconnect the negative battery cable
18. Start the engine – Start the engine and check for oil and coolant leaks
