Timing Chain 06E109465AM For Audi A6 C6 3.0T 3.2L 4.2L — OEM Upper Center Chain
Product Overview
The Upper Center Camshaft Timing Chain with OEM reference number 06E109465AM is a verified direct-fit replacement for a wide range of Audi vehicles equipped with 3.0T V6, 3.2L V6, 4.2L V8, 5.2L V10, and 4.0T V8 engines. This chain is a critical component of the engine's timing system, responsible for synchronizing the rotation of the crankshaft and camshafts.
The upper center timing chain connects the camshaft sprockets on the left and right cylinder banks, ensuring precise valve timing for optimal engine performance, fuel efficiency, and emissions control. Over time, timing chains can stretch with use, leading to rattling noises, chain slap, and potential timing issues. A stretched or worn chain can impact timing, overwork the tensioner, and if left unaddressed, can cause astrophic engine damage.
This OE-spec replacement chain is manufactured by Iwis (Innovations-Wirklichkeit-iWis), the original equipment timing chain supplier for Audi and Volkswagen. Iwis is a German precision chain manufacturer founded in 1916, headquartered in Munich, with a production goal of "100% repeatability across 30 million parts manufactured each day." This chain meets or exceeds original equipment standards, ensuring reliable performance and long service life.
Important Note: The 06E109465AM supersedes 06E109465AD and is the current OEM part number for many appliions. This part is also known as 06E-109-465-AM and 6E109465AM.

⚠️ Important: This is the upper center timing chain. It fits vehicles from chassis/VIN 4F-7-112 001, 4L-7-080 001, and 8E-7-907 300 onward. Always verify your vehicle's original part number and engine code before ordering. 06E109465AM supersedes 06E109465AD.
Failure Symptoms
Symptom
Description
Rattling noise on startup
Most common symptom — chain slack causes slap against guides
Chain slap or rattle at idle
Worn or stretched chain no longer maintains proper tension
Check Engine Light
Timing correlation codes — camshaft/crankshaft position mismatch
Rough running or misfires
Incorrect valve timing affects combustion
Engine won't start
Chain has jumped teeth or broken (rare)
⚠️ Ignoring a failing timing chain can lead to:
astrophic engine damage — bent valves, damaged pistons
Manufacturer Note: Though manufacturers list timing chains as a lifetime part, most enthusiasts choose to replace them when symptoms appear. If your Audi has high mileage along with any of these symptoms, the timing chain should be inspected and replaced.
