Product Function
The balancer shaft is a critical component of the engine's NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) reduction system. Positioned on the right side of the cylinder block and driven by the crankshaft via a dedied belt, it rotates at twice engine speed to counteract the inherent secondary vibrations of an inline-4 diesel engine.
A failing, worn, or incorrectly timed balancer shaft leads to excessive engine vibration, droning noise under acceleration, premature bearing wear, and potential astrophic engine damage if the drive belt fails.

Installation Recommendations
Why this part fails (4D56 specific consideration):
On the 4D56 engine, the balancer shaft is driven by a small dedied belt. Over time, this belt can stretch, wear, or snap. A snapped balancer belt is the #1 cause of astrophic engine failure on 4D56 engines.
⚠️ CRITICAL: Replace Both Shafts and Drive Belt Simultaneously
Before installation, it is strongly recommended to replace the balancer shafts in pairs (left and right), as the shafts can differ in weight. Additionally, always replace the balancer shaft drive belt at the same time.
