This critical engine sealing component is installed at the front crankshaft (timing side) to retain engine oil within the crankcase and prevent leakage while blocking dust, water, and debris from entering the timing cover.
Working Principle
The front crank oil seal creates a dynamic seal between the rotating crankshaft and stationary timing cover. The dual-lip TB-type design features a primary sealing lip that maintains contact with the crankshaft surface under spring tension, and a secondary dust lip that blocks contaminants. The NBR (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber) construction provides excellent resistance to engine oil, high temperatures, and compression set.
Failure Symptoms
  • Engine oil leakage at the front of the engine — visible oil traces on timing cover, crankshaft pulley, or under vehicle

Installation Guidelines
IMPORTANT: Engine front seal service must be performed by a qualified technician. Always support the vehicle on a hoist and relieve belt tension before removing the crankshaft pulley. Never reuse old oil seals.
  1. Preparation: Raise vehicle on hoist. Remove drive belt(s), cooling fan assembly, and crankshaft damper pulley
  2. Removal: Remove old front oil seal using seal puller or ISUZU special tool
  3. Inspection: Inspect crankshaft sealing surface and timing cover bore for damage
  4. Cleaning: Clean crankshaft surface and timing cover bore thoroughly
  5. Installation: Coat new oil seal lip with clean engine oil. Press seal into timing cover until fully seated
  6. Pulley Installation: Reinstall crankshaft damper pulley and tighten to specification
  7. Final Check: Check engine oil level and run engine to verify no leakage
  8. Road Test: Perform road test to confirm no oil leakage
Maintenance Schedule
  • Every 10,000 km: Inspect front crank seal area for oil leakage. Check engine oil level
  • Every 40,000-50,000 km: Inspect front crank seal and timing cover for oil residue
  • Whenever crankshaft pulley is removed: Always replace front crank oil seal with new unit
