Installation & Maintenance Recommendations
IMPORTANT: Piston installation is an engine overhaul-level operation. It must be performed by a qualified diesel engine technician in a clean workshop. Always measure the cylinder liner bore and piston clearance before assembly. Never reuse old piston pins or snap rings.
Preparation: Remove the cylinder head and oil pan. Disconnect the connecting rod caps and withdraw the piston and rod assemblies from the top of the cylinder block.
Disassembly: Remove the piston pin snap rings. Press the piston pin out using a proper pin press. Separate the piston from the connecting rod.
Inspection: Inspect the cylinder liner bore for wear, scoring, or taper. Measure the bore diameter and compare to specification. Inspect the connecting rod small end bushing for wear.
Preparation for New Piston: Clean the new piston thoroughly. Install new piston rings onto the piston using a ring expander. Ensure the ring gaps are positioned correctly (typically 120° apart).
Piston Pin Installation: Lubricate the piston pin and connecting rod small end bushing with clean engine oil. Install the piston pin and new snap rings.
Clearance Check: Measure the piston-to-liner clearance using a feeler gauge. Verify the clearance is within the specification of 0.081–0.116 mm.
