Product Overview
The Cylinder Liner Kit with OEM numbers 1878129280 and 1-87812928-0 is a verified direct-fit replacement for ISUZU 6WF1 / 6WF1-TC / 6WF1-TCC Euro3 diesel engines, commonly installed in ISUZU GIGA CYZ, CXZ, EXZ and related heavy-duty truck chassis. Each kit includes one cylinder liner, one piston, one 4-ring set, one piston pin, and snap rings. It is designed for engine overhaul and cylinder bore restoration.
Working Principle
The cylinder liner is a critical wear component of the diesel engine block. In the 6WF1 engine, it uses a wet liner design: the outer wall contacts engine coolant directly, while the inner bore guides the piston and forms the combustion seal. The liner must withstand peak combustion pressures above 180 bar, transfer heat to the cooling system, and provide a durable sliding surface for the piston rings. The bore is plateau honed to create micro-oil retention, reducing friction and extending piston ring life.
Failure Symptoms
Replace the liner kit when any of these symptoms appear:
  • Excessive oil consumption / blue smoke — worn liner-to-ring clearance allows oil into the combustion chamber.
  • Power loss — poor cylinder sealing causes low compression and weak acceleration.
  • Abnormal knocking noise — heavy metallic knock from idle to mid-speed, sometimes with black smoke.
  • Hard starting or no-start — low compression makes cold starts difficult.
  • Cylinder scoring / scuffing — foreign objects or snapped snap rings can scratch the liner bore.

  • 6WF1 cylinder liners are classified by inner diameter grade such as 1X, 2X, 3X. Measure the cylinder block seat bore before installation and select the matching liner grade. Incorrect grade can cause abnormal liner protrusion or distortion.
  • After pressing the liner in, measure liner protrusion with a dial indicator. Incorrect protrusion can cause head gasket failure or early liner cracking.
  • For right-hand drive (RHD) vehicles, installation space may be limited. Confirm the specific procedure in the workshop manual.
