This air chamber is the actuator of the air brake system, responsible for converting compressed air pressure into mechanical force that pushes the brake shoes against the brake drum to stop the vehicle.
The air chamber is mounted near the axle brake mechanism and connected to the brake valve via air lines. When the driver presses the brake pedal, compressed air enters the chamber, pushing the internal rubber diaphragm or piston outward. The push rod transmits force to the slack adjuster, which expands the brake shoes against the brake drum to generate braking force. When the pedal is released, air is exhausted from the chamber and the return spring retracts the push rod, releasing the brake.
