Installation & Maintenance Recommendations
IMPORTANT: Camshaft installation requires professional tools and experience. Professional installation is strongly recommended. Disconnect the negative battery terminal before installation. Ensure the engine is completely cool.
Installation Guidelines
Refer to ISUZU 6HK1 workshop manual for exact specifications:
Rotate the crankshaft to bring No. 1 cylinder to compression TDC.
Install camshaft bearing lower halves on the cylinder head; apply engine oil to bearing surfaces.
Install the camshaft into the cylinder head, aligning the "•" mark (6HK1) with the upper face of the cylinder head.
Install bearing caps with front marks facing the front of the engine, in numerical order.
Tighten bearing cap bolts to specified torque: 27 N·m (2.8 kg·m / 20 lb ft), working from the center of the cylinder head toward the outside.
Install camshaft gear and tighten to specified torque: 142 N·m (14.5 kg·m / 105 lb ft).
Install rocker arm shaft assembly; adjust valve clearance.
Install cylinder head cover.
Maintenance Schedule
Inspect valve clearance and valve train noise every 40,000 km.
Inspect camshaft wear at 80,000-100,000 km or upon power loss or abnormal fuel consumption.
