Off-track box girder design: This is a typical feature of European double-girder overhead crane systems. The trolley track is not located on the centerline of the main beam, but rather offset to one side of the main web.
Advantages::
Direct load transfer: The trolley wheel pressure acts directly on the main web through the track, resulting in a shorter and more direct force transfer path, reducing torque and stress, and improving the rigidity and stability of the main beam.
Optimized top flange: Since the track is not centered, the top flange can be designed to be narrower, further reducing weight.
Equal Strength Optimized Design (Fishbelly Beam): The main beam is not a simple beam of uniform cross-section. Instead, it is designed based on a bending moment diagram (higher bending moments in the center, lower moments at the ends).
Appearance: The height or web thickness of the main beam gradually decreases from the center toward the ends, forming an elegant arch (or slightly arched) shape, commonly known as a "fishbelly beam."
Advantages: This ensures consistent strength and safety factors across all sections of the main beam, avoiding material waste and perfectly embodying the principle of "allocation according to need."
