PVC Thermal Stability Tester (Conductometric Method)

I. Test Principle:

Plastic products made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) decompose and release gaseous hydrogen chloride (HCl) at the specified test temperature. When determining the thermal stability of PVC in accordance with DIN 53381 Part 1 or ISO 182 Part 3, the hydrogen chloride released by the plastic sample is transported by flowing nitrogen into a measuring cell containing deionized water, which causes a change in the electrical conductivity of the solution inside the cell. The thermal stability of PVC materials is defined by measuring the time taken for HCl to be generated. Normally, the time required for the conductivity change value of the measuring cell to reach 50 μS/cm is referred to as the stability time. This method is suitable for testing the thermal stability of PVC throughout the whole processing period, and can also be used to evaluate the performance of PVC heat stabilizers.

II. Functions

  1. The software automatically records the conductivity change curve, and judges the induction point by calculating the second derivative of the curve.
  2. After the test is completed, the induction reaction time together with the test process curve will be saved into the database for future inquiry.
  3. In addition to measuring the induction reaction time, the software also allows evaluation of the so-called stability time, namely the time required for the conductivity to reach a set value.
  4. The software can also re-evaluate each test curve. By setting the evaluation time range, a certain segment of the curve can be selected for evaluation, so as to avoid abnormal data segments caused by cleaning, sample factors or other interferences.
  5. The database can store all test-related data, including conductivity curve, induction reaction time, adopted method, test start and end time, etc.
  6. Test data can be queried by setting filter conditions.
  7. In addition, the software is equipped with functions of multi-curve comparison and curve analysis.
  8. Display mode: two optional modes of Curve / Digital.
  9. Temperature and flow rate can be calibrated via the test software.
  10. Working unit: 4-cell / 4-tube
  11. Each sample channel is independently controlled and can be automatically set as required.
