Use a Ni-Cd/Ni-MH Smart Charger: Always use a charger with -ΔV (negative delta voltage) detection or a timer specifically designed for Ni-Cd/Ni-MH chemistry. Never use a constant voltage charger.
Avoid Overcharging: While tolerant, prolonged overcharge causes heat buildup and accelerates degradation. Do not leave on charge indefinitely.
Memory Effect Management: To minimize the "memory effect," it is recommended to periodically perform a full discharge (to 3.0V) followed by a full charge cycle.
Discharging
Deep Discharge Tolerance: Can be fully discharged to 0V per cell without immediate damage, but regular deep cycling is not recommended for longevity.
Current Limits: Although capable of high currents, continuous operation at the maximum rating will generate significant heat.
Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation during high-rate charge and discharge to disperse gases.
Storage & Handling
Storage State: For long-term storage (>6 months), it is best to store the pack in a fully discharged state to minimize crystal growth (memory effect).
Reconditioning: After prolonged storage, perform 2-3 full charge/discharge cycles to restore full capacity.
Physical Care: Avoid short-circuiting the terminals, which can generate extreme heat.
