Pneumatic rubber fender, also called Yokohama fender, is manufactured using rubber and multiple layers of rubber-dipped tire fabric. It serves as a leading anti-collision device for marine applications worldwide.

Floating pneumatic rubber fenders are constructed from synthetic-cord-reinforced rubber sheets with compressed air inside. The internal air enables flotation on water and functions as a shock absorber between ships (ship-to-ship) or between ships and berthing structures during docking operations.

These lightweight fenders can be easily handled and installed using guy-ropes or guy-chains. They resist shearing forces and maintain energy absorption levels under inclined compression up to 15 degrees. Available in diameters from 500 mm to 4,500 mm and lengths from 500 mm to 9,000 mm, pneumatic fenders come as sling-type or with heavy-duty chain & tire net configurations. We also supply vertical hydro pneumatic fenders for submarines.

Ships typically make initial contact with docks or other vessels during STS operations at oblique angles. Unlike solid rubber or foam fenders that experience reduced rated reaction force and energy absorption during inclined compression, inflatable rubber fenders maintain consistent energy absorption even at inclinations up to 15 degrees.

Zhonghaihang Pneumatic Rubber Fenders consist of outer rubber, reinforcement synthetic-tire-cord layer, and inner rubber, all firmly vulcanized together.

• Outer Rubber: Protects cord layers and inner rubber from abrasion and external forces. The rubber compound provides sufficient tensile and tear resistance to withstand severe weather conditions and usage.
• Reinforcement Layer: Synthetic-tire-cord layer maintains internal air pressure integrity.
• Inner Rubber: Seals pressurized air inside the fender.
• Safety Features: Fenders with 2500mm diameter and larger include safety valves to release excess internal pressure during accidental over-compression.

Fender assembly features metal end components with internal and external flanges secured by bolts and nuts, centered around a valve similar to automobile tire valves. This construction ensures consistent performance under rough conditions and cyclic loads while minimizing maintenance costs and damage risks. Premium materials guarantee self-buoyancy and extended service life.

• Maintain fender pressure within standard air pressure ±5% range
• Check air pressure every three months and adjust to standard levels
• Avoid contact with sharp objects
• When not in use for extended periods: clean, dry, fill with proper compressed air, and store in cool, dry, ventilated areas
• Storage areas should be away from heat sources, acids, alkalis, oils, and greases
• Do not fold or stack fenders during storage
