Product Overview

Pneumatic rubber fender, also called Yokohama fender, is manufactured using rubber and multiple layers of rubber-dipped tire fabric. It serves as a leading anti-collision device for marine applications worldwide.

These floating pneumatic rubber fenders are lightweight, making them easy to handle and install with guy-ropes or guy-chains. They can resist shearing forces and maintain energy absorption levels under inclined compression up to 15 degrees while providing low and comparatively even hull pressure.

Constructed with several synthetic-cord layers and tough abrasion-resistant rubber, they deliver consistent performance even under rough conditions and cyclic loads. This design minimizes maintenance costs and damage risks. The high-quality materials ensure self-buoyancy and an extremely long service life.

Pneumatic fenders are available in diameters ranging from 500 mm to 4,500 mm and lengths from 500 mm to 9,000 mm. All sizes are available as sling-type or with heavy-duty chain and tire net configurations. We also supply vertical hydro pneumatic fenders for submarines.

Note: Floating pneumatic rubber fenders have sometimes been colloquially referred to as "Yokohama Fenders" or "Yokohama type fenders" - ISO 17357:2014 Ships and marine technology - High-pressure floating pneumatic rubber fenders.

Advantages at Inclined Berthing

Ships typically make initial contact with docks or other ships during STS operations at oblique angles. Unlike solid rubber fenders or foam fenders, which experience significant decreases in rated reaction force and energy absorption during inclined compression, pneumatic rubber fenders maintain their performance characteristics. This eliminates the need for larger sizes to compensate for energy absorption loss.

Product Structure

Zhonghaihang Pneumatic Rubber Fenders are constructed with outer rubber, reinforcement synthetic-tire-cord layers, and inner rubber, all firmly vulcanized together.

  • Outer Rubber: Protects cord layers and inner rubber from abrasion and external forces. The rubber compound has sufficient tensile and tear resistance strength to withstand anticipated weather conditions and severe usage.
  • Reinforcement Synthetic-Tire-Cord Layer: Strong enough to maintain the internal air pressure of the fender.
  • Inner Rubber Layer: Seals the pressurized air inside the fender.
  • Safety Valve: Fenders of diameter 2500mm and larger are equipped with safety valves for releasing excess internal pressure during accidental over-compression.

Fender assembly features metal ends with inside and outside flanges secured by bolts and nuts, with a center valve similar to automobile tire valves.

Usage Precautions
  • Maintain fender pressure within standard air pressure ±5% range
  • Check air pressure every three months and adjust to standard as needed
  • Avoid contact with sharp objects
  • When not in use for extended periods: wash, dry, fill with appropriate compressed air, and store in cool, dry, ventilated areas
  • Storage areas should be away from heat, acids, alkalis, oils, and greases
  • Do not fold or pile fenders during storage
