The 304 Stainless Steel Capillary Sandblasted Graduated Puncture Needle is a high-precision, dual-function instrument designed for applications requiring both accurate volumetric measurement and clean penetration. It is fabricated from 304 stainless steel capillary tubing, providing inherent strength and corrosion resistance. The needle undergoes a controlled sandblasting process, which creates a uniform, matte surface finish that enhances durability and provides an excellent substrate for clear, permanent laser-etched volume graduations. The precision-ground sharp tip ensures reliable puncture of septa or membranes. This combination of a sandblasted body, a clear measurement scale, and a fine capillary bore makes it an ideal tool for precise micro-volume fluid handling and transfer in demanding laboratory and industrial settings.
Capillary Tubing Preparation: Medical-grade 304 stainless steel capillary tubing is selected and cut to precise lengths. The internal lumen is ensured to be clean and smooth.
Sandblasting (Bead Blasting): The exterior surface of the needle is uniformly sandblasted using fine media (like glass beads or aluminum oxide) at controlled pressure. This process creates a consistent, non-reflective matte finish that improves grip and provides a textured surface for marking.
Laser Etching of Graduations: High-precision laser etching is performed directly onto the sandblasted surface. This creates permanent, high-contrast graduation marks (in µL, mL, or mm) and numerical indicators that are resistant to solvents and wear.
Tip Grinding & Sharpening: The distal end is precision-ground to form a sharp, beveled point (e.g., lancet style) suitable for piercing. The grinding is done with care to maintain the concentricity of the tip with the capillary bore.
Cleaning & Surface Passivation: Following the abrasive and marking processes, the needle undergoes thorough ultrasonic cleaning to remove all particulates. A chemical passivation treatment (per ASTM A967) is then applied to restore and enhance the corrosion resistance of the stainless steel.
Calibration Verification & Final Inspection: The accuracy of the etched graduations is verified against a traceable standard. Each needle is inspected for dimensional accuracy, graduation clarity, tip sharpness, and overall finish quality.
