The NVIDIA® MCP4Y10-N002 is a twin-port OSFP to OSFP Direct Attached Copper (DAC) cable. It establishes a high-speed, low-latency link between two 400Gb/s ports, making it an essential component for building scalable, high-performance clusters. Its primary function is to interconnect NVIDIA Quantum-2 InfiniBand or Spectrum-4 Ethernet switches, or to connect such a switch to an NVIDIA DGX H100 system. The passive design eliminates active components, resulting in superior reliability, lower cost, and simpler deployment compared to optical solutions, solidifying its role as a premier network card interconnect.
This cable leverages industry-standard technologies to ensure interoperability and performance. It is fully compliant with the OSFP MSA (Multi-Source Agreement) specification. The electrical interface uses eight differential copper pairs, each carrying a 100 Gb/s PAM4 signal. The integrated EEPROM, accessible via a standard I²C (SFF-8636) management interface, stores vital product information, including vendor details, cable length, and supported application codes for both InfiniBand and Ethernet, allowing for automatic protocol configuration. This makes it a versatile nic card solution.
The cable functions as a passive electrical bridge. High-speed differential electrical signals from the transmitter (Tx) pins of the host network card or switch are carried through precisely engineered copper pairs within the cable. The cable's impedance is tightly controlled at 100Ω (±10%) to minimize signal reflection. At the far end, these signals are delivered directly to the receiver (Rx) pins of the connected device. No signal retiming, conversion, or active amplification occurs, which is the source of its ultra-low latency and power advantage. The host system reads the cable's EEPROM to identify it as a passive copper DAC and configure the appropriate link settings.

A: Finned top connectors are standard for air-cooled switches. Flat top connectors (designated -FLT) are designed for liquid-cooled switch systems and specific server installations like the DGX H100 where space above the connector is limited.
Q2: Is this cable compatible with my existing 100G or 200G switch?
A: No. The MCP4Y10 is designed for OSFP ports running 400G per port (800G aggregate) protocols. It requires switches and nic cards that support OSFP form factor and 400GbE or InfiniBand NDR speeds.
Q3: How do I manage or monitor this cable?
A: The cable has an EEPROM managed via a standard I²C interface (SFF-8636). The host system (switch or server) can read information such as vendor, type, length, and supported protocols, but there is no active performance monitoring for a passive DAC.
Q4: What is the minimum bend radius to avoid damage?
A: For the 2m cable (MCP4Y10-N002), the minimum repeated bend radius near the connector is 10x diameter (89mm). A single, one-time bend away from the connector can be as tight as 5x diameter (44.5mm).
Q5: Does it support longer distances than 2 meters?
A: For reliable 400G per lane operation over copper, distances are typically limited to 2-3 meters. For longer reaches, Active Optical Cables (AOCs) or optical transceivers with fiber are recommended.
