Technology Overview
Direct Attach Copper (DAC) cables offer the lowest-cost, lowest-latency, and near-zero power consumption of any high-speed interconnect. By eliminating active electronics, passive DACs provide a simple, reliable, and energy-efficient physical layer for short-reach connections within racks and between adjacent switches.
The OSFP (Octal Small Form Factor Pluggable) connector delivers 8 high-speed lanes in a compact package, enabling 800Gb/s aggregate throughput while maintaining excellent signal integrity. Supports InfiniBand NDR (400Gb/s per port) and Ethernet 800GBASE-CR8 / 400GBASE-CR4 / 200GBASE-CR2 / 100GBASE-CR1 protocols.
Note: Flat-top variants (-FLT) are designed for liquid-cooled switches and DGX-H100 systems. MCP4Y10-N002 is a 2m cable with 26 AWG gauge and finned-top connectors on both ends.
Performance Advantages
Lowest Cost
Passive DAC eliminates expensive optical components and active electronics.
Near-Zero Power
0.1W typical consumption - significantly reduces data center power and cooling costs.
Ultra-Low Latency
Direct copper connection provides the lowest possible signal delay.
High Density
OSFP form factor enables 800Gb/s aggregate in a compact cable assembly.
Plug-and-Play
Auto-detects InfiniBand or Ethernet protocol; no configuration required.
Buyer Checklist
Confirm length required (2.0m = MCP4Y10-N002)
Verify connector type: finned (standard) vs flat top (-FLT)
Check switch port type: OSFP required
Ensure cable management space meets bend radius requirements
Confirm protocol (InfiniBand or Ethernet) auto-detected
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the maximum length for this cable?
2.0 meters. For longer distances, consider active optical cables or optical transceivers.
Does this cable support both InfiniBand and Ethernet?
Yes, the firmware auto-detects the protocol of the connected switch and configures accordingly.
What is the difference between finned and flat top?
Finned top is standard; flat top (-FLT variants) are designed for liquid-cooled switches and DGX-H100 systems.
Is this cable hot-pluggable?
Yes, OSFP connectors are hot-pluggable - no need to power down the switch or server.
Installation Precautions
Observe ESD handling precautions during installation
Do not exceed the minimum bend radius: 89mm assembly, 10x OD for repeated bends
Follow NVIDIA Cable Management Guidelines to avoid physical damage
Protect connectors with supplied caps until installation
Confirm connector type (finned vs flat top) matches your system
