Structured packing is a high-efficiency tower internal component specially designed for mass transfer processes in distillation, rectification, absorption and stripping towers. It is manufactured by arranging thin metal sheets, plastic sheets or ceramic materials into regularly corrugated panels, which are assembled into integral packing modules. Each layer of corrugated plates is placed at a fixed inclined angle, and adjacent packing layers are stacked crosswise inside the tower, creating continuous, orderly and directional flow channels for gas and liquid phases.
When gas rises upward and liquid flows downward inside the column, the structured packing provides a large specific surface area for full gas-liquid contact. It can evenly spread liquid to form a thin liquid film, effectively eliminating channel flow, wall flow and liquid maldistribution. Compared with random packing, structured packing features higher separation efficiency, lower pressure drop and larger processing capacity, which has become the preferred mass transfer medium for large-scale, high-precision industrial separation equipment.
Common materials include stainless steel (SS304, SS316L, SS321), PP, PVC, PTFE, ceramic, copper and aluminum, adaptable to various high-temperature, low-temperature, strong corrosive, clean and food-grade working conditions.
High Mass Transfer Efficiency
Large specific surface area and good surface wettability enable sufficient gas-liquid contact, which can obtain more theoretical plates and realize precise separation of multi-component mixtures.
Low Pressure Drop
Regular geometric flow paths greatly reduce gas flow resistance, saving operating energy and especially suitable for vacuum distillation systems.
