The metal pall ring packing was invented by the German company BASF in the 1940s. It is made of sheet metal and has a total area of about 35% of the ring wall. Compared with the same Raschig ring packing specifications, the pall ring packing has many holes in the ring wall, allowing gas and liquid to flow freely through, and greatly enhancing the gas and liquid distribution in the packing layer. As a result, the separation performance of the pall ring filler is greatly improved. It remains one of the main ring packings used today.
