This is a flange check valve (also called non-return valve, one-way valve), which "only allows one-way flow of the medium and prevents backflow" in the fluid pipeline. The following is a disassembly from the structure, principle, and application:
Core structure & working logic
Valve body (blue body):
Material: ductile iron (surface anti-corrosion spray), pressure-resistant, corrosion-resistant, suitable for water, oil, gas and other media. The flanges at both ends connect the pipeline for easy splicing with the pipeline network.
The meaning of the cast characters: "PN16" is the pressure rating (can withstand 1.6MPa pressure, about 16 kg/cm2); "DN100" is the nominal diameter (standard size of the adapted pipeline, inner diameter of about 100mm).
Valve disc (internal hidden parts):
The "heart" of the check valve: There is a movable valve disc in the valve body (such as rocker type, lifting type). When the medium flows forward (arrow direction), the thrust pushes the valve disc open and the pipeline is connected; when the medium flows back, the valve disc automatically closes the valve port by its own gravity + medium reverse pressure to prevent backflow.
Flow direction mark (arrow):
Clear the only flow direction of the medium (the flow direction of the pipeline medium must be aligned during installation. Reverse installation will lose the check function and even damage the valve).
Application scenario & value
Water pump outlet: the most common! For example, community water supply pumps and factory circulating water pumps, when starting, the water flow pushes the valve disc to supply water; when the pump is stopped, the valve disc closes quickly to prevent water from backflowing and damaging the water pump (avoiding the "water hammer" phenomenon-the backflow of water hits the water pump impeller, which may cause impeller damage and pipeline bursting).
Drainage system: In the steam pipeline, condensate flows forward through the check valve, and is blocked when steam flows back, ensuring drainage efficiency (such as thermal power plants, steam heating systems).
Gas pipeline: Prevent gas backflow and flashback (for example, when the user's stove is turned off, the gas flows back to the main pipeline, which may cause an explosion; the check valve can cut off the backflow path and improve safety).
Advantages compared to ordinary valves
✔️ Automatic water backflow stop: No manual operation is required, the medium backflow is automatically closed instantly, protecting equipment (water pumps, compressors, etc.) and pipelines.
✔️ Simplified system: Replace the complex combination of "valve + check device", and rely on a single valve to achieve unidirectional flow control, saving costs and installation space.
Simply put, this is the "one-way gatekeeper" of the pipeline, silently preventing the risk of backflow and protecting the safety of the system - especially at the outlet of water pumps and power equipment, it is a must-install "life-saving valve"!
