Note: The higher carbon content allows 420 stainless steel to achieve high hardness through quenching and tempering, while the chromium content provides moderate corrosion resistance.

Note: 420 stainless steel exhibits secondary hardening during tempering. Avoid tempering in the 400–600°C range (low toughness zone).
