Austenitic stainless steels have a face-centered cubic (FCC) crystal structure and are composed of iron, carbon, chromium, and at least 8% nickel.
Due to their high chromium and nickel content, they are highly corrosion resistant and non-magnetic.
The most common stainless steel grades for structural sections are 304L (1.4307) and 316L (1.4404).
Both grades have much more than ten percent of chromium.
Their melting compound contains also nickel and in case of the 316L also molybdenum.
