400 series: ferritic and martensitic stainless steel
Grade 408: good heat resistance, weak corrosion resistance, 11% Cr, 8% Ni. Grade 409: In addition to the addition of titanium, it is commonly used as an exhaust pipe for automobiles. It is a ferritic stainless steel (chrome steel), suitable for welding, and has low cost for automobile exhaust pipes and petroleum equipment. Grade 410: Martensite (high-strength chrome steel), good wear resistance, poor corrosion resistance, suitable for pumps. Its chemical composition contains 13% chromium, 0.15% or less of carbon and a small amount of other elemental alloys. It is magnetic and can be hardened by heat treatment. General uses include bearings, medical equipment and tools. Grade 416: The addition of sulfur improves the processing properties of the material. Grade 420: Contains higher carbon, hardness, higher strength, blade grade martensitic stainless steel, this earliest stainless steel, can be very bright, suitable for knives, springs, surgical instruments, razor cutting heads, valves. Grade 430: Ferritic stainless steel, decorative, magnetic, for example for automotive accessories. Good formability, but poor temperature resistance and corrosion resistance, suitable for fasteners, tableware, furniture. Its standard chemical composition is 16-18% chromium with low carbon content. This type of stainless steel is magnetic. Grade 434: Containing molybdenum, it has better corrosion resistance than 430. It is suitable for tableware, wipers and car decoration. Grade 440: High-strength cutting tool steel with slightly higher carbon content. After proper heat treatment, it can obtain higher yield strength and hardness of 58HRC, which is among the hardest stainless steel. The most common application example is the "razor blade." There are three commonly used models: 440A, 440B, 440C, and 440F (easy processing type).
