Nickle Alloy Flat Welding Flange 254 SMO 6MO Super Dupex F44 1.4547 UNS S31254
Nickle Alloy Flange, also known as a flange rim or flange, is a part that connects pipes to each other at the ends, and it is also used on equipment inlets and outlets for connecting two pieces of equipment, such as a reducer flange. A flange connection or flange joint refers to a detachable connection consisting of a flange, gasket, and bolt, which together form a combined sealing structure.
Welding Process:
Required Equipment: A set of manual arc welding equipment, one handle-type angle grinder, one electric air hammer, and one straight edge.
Folding Welding Preparation: 1. Check and adjust the equipment to ensure normal operation; 2. Prepare φ4.0 J402 welding rods, which are preferably dried at 300°C - 350°C for one hour.
Folding Welding Process: 1. Assemble the cone and the large flange according to the drawing requirements, then divide the large flange into 8 equal parts; 2. Welding due to the thicker flange and larger groove, the use of segmental symmetrical, multi-layer welding is adopted.
Folding Welding Quality Requirements: The weld strength must at least match the strength of the base material. The weld surface should be flat and smooth, without defects such as burn-through, porosity, welding leaks, slag inclusion, undercutting, or incomplete welding. The weld reinforcement height should be less than 2mm.
Folding Notes for Attention: 1. When welding the base layer, always use J506 welding rod manual surfacing and welding with a small current. Strictly follow the welding process; 2: After welding each position, use a level to check the deformation of the flange plane; 3: While welding, use the air hammer to strike the weld to eliminate stress.
UNS S31254 / 1.4547 / F44:
Material to UNS S31254 (and the other specificationslisted below) is described as a 6% Mo super austeniticstainless steel. The steel combines moderate mechanicalstrength (typically over 300 MPa yield strength) and highductility with excellent corrosion resistance in seawaterand a variety of industrial environments. Typically thealloy has a PREn (Pitting Resistance Equivalent) of 42-44which ensures that the resistance to pitting corrosion ishigh. In addition, the steel provides good resistance tocrevice corrosion. Ambient and subzero temperaturenotch ductility is very good. These attributes mean thatthis high molybdenum stainless steel can be usedsuccessfully as an alternative to 300 series austeniticstainless steels (such as type 316) in applications wherehigher mechanical strength and/or enhanced resistanceto pitting and crevice corrosion is required. This alloypossesses a lower yield strength than that of duplexstainless steel (and much lower than that of super duplexsteel) and pitting resistance which is comparable to superduplex stainless steel (such as UNS S32760 / S32750).

Machinability / Welding:
The machining and welding of this grade of superaustenitic stainless steel presents no particular problems.Guidance notes are available upon request.
1. Stainless steel grade 254 SMO™ is quite tough to machine due to the extremely high work hardening rate and lack of sulfur content;
2. however using sharp tools, overpowered machine tools, positive feeds, good amount of lubrication, and slow speeds tend to provide good machining results.
Welding
1. Welding of stainless steel grade 254 SMO™ requires filler material without which it results in poor strength properties.
2. Filler metals such as AWS A5.14 ERNiCrMo-3, and alloy 625 are recommended.
3. Electrodes used in the process, have to match with AWS A5.11 ENiCrMo-12.
Annealing
Annealing of this material should be performed at 1149-1204°C (2100-2200°F), which should be followed by a water quench.
Hot Working
1. Forging, upsetting and other operations relating to this material can be performed at 982 – 1149°C (1800 – 2100°F).
2. It is recommended that temperatures do not exceed this range as it would result in scaling and reduction in the workability of the material.
3. To re-attain maximum corrosion resistant properties, it is advisable to perform post-process annealing.
Cold Working
1. Cold working can be carried out using all the traditional methods;
2. however the process would be tough due to its high work hardening rate.
3. The result will provide the material with increased strength and toughness.
Hardening
1. Stainless steel grade 254 SMO™ does not respond to heat treatment. 2. Hardening is possible only through cold reduction.
