Hastelloy B-2 Forging Bar ASTM B564 Nickel Alloy Round Bar Ø150 

 

Hastelloy B-2 is a nickel-molybdenum alloy known for its exceptional resistance to reducing environments, such as hydrochloric acid and other non-oxidizing acids. It is a solid-solution-strengthened alloy with excellent corrosion resistance in harsh chemical environments, particularly those involving sulfuric, hydrochloric, and phosphoric acids. The ASTM B564 specification covers the requirements for nickel alloy forgings, including Hastelloy B-2, in the form of bars, rings, and other shapes.

 


Material Composition:

The chemical composition of Hastelloy B-2 typically includes:

Nickel (Ni): Balance (approximately 65-70%)

Molybdenum (Mo): 26-30%

Iron (Fe): 2.0% max

Chromium (Cr): 1.0% max

Cobalt (Co): 1.0% max

Manganese (Mn): 1.0% max

Silicon (Si): 0.10% max

Carbon (C): 0.02% max

Sulfur (S): 0.03% max

Phosphorus (P): 0.04% max

The low carbon content and absence of chromium in Hastelloy B-2 make it highly resistant to the formation of carbide precipitation during welding or exposure to high temperatures.

  • Excellent Corrosion Resistance:

Hastelloy B-2 is specifically designed to resist reducing environments, such as hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and phosphoric acid.

It is highly resistant to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in chloride-containing environments.

Performs well in both acidic and alkaline media, particularly in non-oxidizing conditions.

  • High Thermal Stability:

Maintains its mechanical properties and corrosion resistance at elevated temperatures, up to approximately 400°C (750°F).

  • Good Fabricability:

Hastelloy B-2 can be forged, machined, and welded using standard techniques, although it requires careful control of heat input during welding to avoid carbide precipitation.

  • Low Magnetic Permeability:

The alloy is non-magnetic, making it suitable for applications where magnetic interference must be minimized.

  • Resistance to Localized Corrosion:

The high molybdenum content provides excellent resistance to localized corrosion, such as pitting and crevice corrosion.
