Translate the concept into a manufacturable drawing

Specify the outside diameter and its acceptance limits first, then define the threaded feature relative to the sphere. Identify the thread axis, any positional requirement and the intended opening. Where more than one hole is required, show their relationship explicitly rather than relying on a photograph of a similar component.

A blind tapped hole needs both a thread-depth requirement and a drilled-depth definition. Those dimensions serve different purposes. Include any requirement for the entry, edge condition or bottom clearance, and relate the usable engagement to the mating threaded part.

Preserve the intended solid-sphere construction

The title describes a solid sphere with a drilled thread hole. It should not be confused with a hollow decorative shell or an unthreaded perforated bead. The drawing should make the remaining material and connection arrangement clear so that the quotation addresses the intended component.

If the design changes the diameter or thread from a previous order, review the whole feature relationship again. A hole arrangement appropriate to one sphere size should not be assumed suitable for another. Keep the revised drawing reference with the purchase order to distinguish the new part from earlier versions.

Material and exposed-surface requirements

316L provides the material basis for the component. The operating environment and any subsequent assembly operation should be considered when specifying the final condition. Identify relevant process liquids, cleaning exposure and temperature where these affect the material review.

The external sphere and threaded interior may have different acceptance requirements. State the required surface appearance or measured finish on the drawing, along with burr and edge criteria. If additional surface processing is needed, define it separately rather than assuming every decorative finish is included.

Check the fit with the mating part

Thread designation, pitch, direction and tolerance should correspond to the mating component. Where the assembly includes a seating feature, identify the contact geometry and clearance. The strength and suitability of the complete connection depend on the assembly design, not solely on the material name of the sphere.

Incoming inspection can then concentrate on the outside size, hole position, thread fit and finish. Specify additional tests or records where needed. A single general precision statement cannot replace a feature-based inspection requirement for a custom threaded component.

Keep custom orders traceable

Use a part number or drawing revision to distinguish spheres that look alike but contain different threads or depths. Identify mixed-size shipments by order line and retain the lot information through receiving and storage. Clear identification helps prevent the wrong component reaching an assembly station.

For repeat supply, retain the accepted drawing and record any changes in the mating part. Provide photographs as supporting information when useful, while keeping dimensions and acceptance criteria on the approved documentation. This gives the next order a consistent technical basis.
