Cast heat treatment trays and support frames carry workpieces through a furnace process while keeping the load arranged for the equipment. A useful tray is more than a heat-resistant plate: its grid, ribs, seating surfaces and external profile must work with the parts being treated and the supporting furnace structure. EB Castings supplies custom casting enquiries based on the required fixture drawing and thermal duty.
A tray transfers the weight of the workpieces through its support features. The drawing should show where parts rest, where the tray itself is supported and whether additional fixtures sit between them. These contact points help define the load path instead of treating the entire tray as a uniformly loaded surface.
Grid openings and rib spacing are also functional features. They provide access around the load while supporting the workpieces at the required positions. The balance between open area and supporting material is part of the fixture design; it should follow the component layout and the furnace arrangement.
The alloy must be selected for temperature, atmosphere and mechanical duty together. High-temperature strength, oxidation resistance and response to repeated heating and cooling can all matter. A lightly loaded support and a tray carrying a concentrated load may have different requirements even when they operate in the same furnace.
Include the normal operating temperature, peak exposure and holding time in the specification. If the atmosphere is controlled or the process involves carburizing or other chemical exposure, describe that condition as well. This provides a more meaningful selection basis than one maximum temperature applied to every alloy and tray shape.
For a tray frame or bottom support component, identify the seating areas and the direction of movement through the equipment. If the part is stacked or supported at selected points, show those interfaces on the assembly drawing. Clearances should account for the furnace design and operating cycle.
Lifting, loading and transfer requirements belong in the fixture definition. A handling feature should be shown where the approved design requires it, rather than assumed from a general photograph. The casting and any subsequent machining are then quoted around the actual installation interfaces.
The manufacturing route is selected for the specified material and geometry. The quotation distinguishes the cast condition from any machined support faces, locating features or other finished dimensions. Required surface quality and casting acceptance criteria should be identified for the individual fixture.
Dimensional inspection can focus on the overall envelope, support positions and the relationships that control fit in the furnace. Material identification and any additional tests are agreed with the order. After service, checking flatness and the condition of ribs or support areas can help maintenance teams identify changes before the next replacement.
For an existing fixture, provide its drawing revision and the arrangement of the workpieces. Photographs of deformation or localized damage can help explain the service history, but the replacement geometry should be based on an approved drawing rather than a distorted sample alone. Record quantity and the required supply condition so the quotation covers the complete component.
