About Alloy 718
N07718 is a nickel chromium molybdenum alloy designed to resist various severe corrosive environments, pitting and crevice corrosion. This nickel steel alloy also has very high yield, tensile and creep fracture properties at high temperature. The service temperature of this nickel alloy ranges from low temperature to 1200 ° f for long-term use A notable feature of the n07718 composition is the addition of niobium to allow age hardening, which allows annealing and welding without spontaneous hardening during heating and cooling. The addition of niobium acts with molybdenum to harden the matrix of the alloy and provide high strength without strengthening heat treatment. Other popular nickel chromium alloys are age hardened by adding aluminum and titanium. This nickel steel alloy is easy to manufacture and can be welded under annealing or precipitation (aging) hardening conditions. This superalloy is used in various industries, such as aerospace, chemical processing, marine engineering, pollution control equipment and nuclear reactors.
