1. Product Overview

Nomay Waterproof Fiberglass Tape is a single-sided fiberglass-reinforced tape with acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive for protective wrapping and specified moisture or water-exposure requirements.

Common buyer terms include Waterproof Glass Fiber Tape, Moisture-Resistant Fiberglass Tape and Water-Resistant Glass Cloth Tape.

The product combines reinforcement and adhesive attachment. Its waterproof performance must be defined for the selected backing treatment and installed joint, rather than assumed from fiberglass or acrylic adhesive alone.

6. Application Procedure

Step 1 — Identify the substrate, joint, component and exposure: humidity, condensation, splash, rain, immersion or pressure.

Step 2 — Select the backing treatment, adhesive, thickness, dimensions and liner or patch format.

Step 3 — Define water temperature, duration, pressure, thermal cycling, mechanical load and any electrical requirement.

Step 4 — Prepare parts and specify overlaps, corner coverage and edge treatment for the joint.

Step 5 — Apply to clean, dry surfaces using uniform pressure. Avoid water channels, wrinkles, contamination and unsupported gaps; allow the specified bond-development time.

Step 6 — Validate water penetration and retained adhesion on the actual assembly after relevant heat, humidity, aging and movement cycles.

Splash-Exposed Components
Use a suitable construction to cover components exposed to intermittent wetting. Confirm liquid type, temperature, duration and edge condition. Splash resistance does not establish continuous immersion capability.

Industrial Seam Covering
Use strips or patches over compatible joints to combine reinforcement and moisture protection. Confirm movement, overlap and leakage criteria. A flat-panel test does not prove performance on a curved or moving seam.

Cable and Harness Wrapping
Use for binding and mechanical coverage where jacket compatibility is established. Confirm plasticizers, moisture and electrical requirements. This is not automatically the sole insulation for exposed conductors.

Motor and Transformer Protection
Evaluate outer wrapping or supplementary insulation with the actual varnish, curing and service conditions. Waterproof treatment must not be assumed compatible with impregnation or electrical insulation systems.

Water Resistance
Define the required exposure and acceptance criteria. Humidity, rain, splash, immersion and pressure are different conditions. Assess backing, seams and adhesive together.

Temperature
Confirm the treatment and acrylic adhesive for continuous temperature, peaks, duration and cycling. A general continuous 130–155°C or short-term 180°C rating has not been established for this complete family.

Adhesion
Specify method, specimen width, substrate and dwell time. Compare adhesion before and after the required water exposure.

Electrical and Mechanical Performance
Confirm dielectric behavior, layer arrangement and retained strength where applicable. Do not use fiber-level strength values as finished-tape data.

Weathering and Removal
Outdoor exposure and clean removal require separate evaluation after aging.
