1. Product Overview
Nomay Flame-Retardant Aluminum Foil Glass Cloth Tape combines a reflective aluminum surface, woven fiberglass reinforcement and single-sided silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive.
Also known as Aluminum Foil Fiberglass Tape, Reinforced Foil Tape or Heat-Reflective Glass Cloth Tape, it is intended for heat-reflective wrapping, insulation-facing repair and selected industrial protection.
The foil adds a metallic reflective surface, while the fiberglass supports mechanical handling. Flame-retardant versions must be selected against defined performance requirements.
2. Product Construction
Backing: Aluminum foil laminated to woven fiberglass cloth.
Adhesive: Silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive.
Adhesive side: Single-sided.
Color: Silver.
Working surface: Metallic foil.
Roll format: Self-wound or liner-backed, according to the selected grade.
Converted formats: Slit rolls, sheets, patches and die-cut parts.
Total thickness includes the foil, fiberglass, laminate bond and pressure-sensitive adhesive. The removable release liner is excluded.
The laminate bond is part of the working structure and must withstand the intended temperature and environment.
3. Backing & Adhesive System
The foil reflects radiant energy and provides a barrier surface when intact. Fiberglass reinforcement helps support the foil against handling damage, tearing and puncture.
Silicone adhesive provides attachment to compatible prepared surfaces. Adhesion must be checked on the actual metal, coating, insulation facing or cable jacket.
The foil also conducts heat and electricity. Its presence does not make the tape a thermal insulator or an electrical-insulation tape.
4. Available Specifications
Model: NM-GC-AL-FR.
Backing: Aluminum foil/glass cloth laminate.
Adhesive: Silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive.
Adhesive side: Single-sided.
Total thickness reference: Approximately 0.19 mm, excluding liner.
Individual layer thicknesses: Confirm by selected construction.
Width: Custom slit widths.
Roll-length reference: 33 m for a comparable construction.
Custom lengths and master-roll availability: Confirm.
Color: Silver.
Liner: Optional, with material and release characteristics specified.
Formats: Finished rolls, slit rolls, sheets, strips and die-cut patches.
Dimensions and tolerances: According to approved specification or drawing.
Final specification must be confirmed for the selected Nomay model. Comparable dimensions do not establish stock availability.
5. Key Features & Buyer Benefits
• Reflective foil supports radiant-heat management.
• Glass reinforcement supports the foil during wrapping and handling.
• Flexible construction follows suitable component contours.
• Intact foil supports insulation-facing barrier repair.
• Defined flame-retardant constructions address project-specific fire requirements.
• Custom patches reduce manual trimming.
• Liner-backed parts support controlled positioning.
No universal reflectivity percentage, temperature reduction or service-life improvement is claimed.
6. Application Procedure
Step 1 — Identify the heat source, protected component, substrate, joint geometry and required barrier function.
Step 2 — Select laminate, adhesive, thickness, width, length and liner or die-cut format.
Step 3 — Define continuous and peak temperatures, exposure time, radiant versus contact heating, electrical clearances and flame requirements.
Step 4 — Prepare the required strips or patches and plan foil orientation, overlaps and edge sealing.
Step 5 — Apply to clean, dry surfaces with firm pressure. Avoid wrinkles, pinholes, trapped air and damaged foil.
Step 6 — Validate adhesion, laminate integrity, thermal behavior and any required flame or barrier performance under the actual operating cycle.
7. Application Industries
• Industrial insulation.
• HVAC and pipe-insulation equipment.
• Transportation equipment.
• Process machinery and appliance manufacture.
• Aerospace or rail projects with construction-specific acceptance.
• Welding and soldering support operations.
• Maintenance and precision converting.
8. Application Scenarios / Problems Solved
Radiant-Heat Wrapping
Position the foil toward the radiant source over suitable insulation. It helps reduce absorbed radiant energy. Confirm spacing, air gaps, contamination and allowable component temperature. The tape does not block conductive heat through direct contact.
Insulation-Facing Repair
Use patches over compatible damaged facing. Confirm overlaps, edge sealing and water exposure. Intact foil properties do not establish a waterproof installed joint.
Cable or Hose Protection
Apply where reflective outer protection and reinforcement are useful. Confirm jacket compatibility, flexing and electrical clearance. Conductive foil must not bridge exposed electrical parts.
Temporary Welding or Soldering Protection
Evaluate for localized protection according to splash severity, distance and duration. This is not an unlimited molten-metal or fire barrier; removal and substrate condition must be checked.
9. Performance & Operating Conditions
Temperature
Confirm the complete laminate and adhesive against temperature, time, cycling and mechanical load. The glass-cloth temperature capability alone is insufficient.
Adhesion
A comparable construction reports approximately 14.3 N/25 mm at 180-degree peel, 22°C, ASTM D3330. This is a comparable-construction reference, not a Nomay guarantee.
Thermal Behavior
Reflective performance depends on orientation, surface condition and assembly geometry. Insulation thickness remains a separate requirement.
Flame and Environment
Use a defined test method for flame performance. Outdoor durability and moisture barriers depend on edges, joints, adhesive and weathering.
Electrical and Removal
Foil is conductive; grounding or shielding requires verified continuity. Clean removal after heat or aging is not guaranteed.
10. Comparison & Selection Guide
Choose reinforced foil where reflective surface and mechanical support are both needed.
Choose plain glass cloth where a metallic surface is unnecessary.
Choose unsupported foil where its mechanical performance is sufficient.
Choose liner-backed formats for precision conversion. Duct closures must meet the applicable project specification rather than being selected solely by adhesive chemistry.
11. Important Selection Notes + Technical Notes / FAQ
A. Important Selection Notes
• Reference values are not verified Nomay ratings.
• Flame retardancy does not mean unlimited fire resistance.
• Foil conducts heat and electricity.
• Waterproof joints require installed-system assessment.
• Confirm size availability, layer structure and tolerances.
• Aerospace or rail use does not establish approval.
B. Technical Notes / FAQ
Does the foil block all heat?
No. It assists radiant-heat management, while conductive transfer remains relevant.
Is the tape fireproof?
No. Select a construction against defined flame criteria.
Can it be used outdoors?
Confirm weathering, water exposure, adhesion and edge sealing.
Can it be used for grounding?
Only after electrical continuity and suitability are established.
Can it be die cut?
Liner-backed constructions can be converted to approved drawings.
12. Inquiry Requirements / Request a Quote
