1. Product Overview
Nomay Acrylic Glass Cloth Tape is a single-sided industrial tape constructed from woven fiberglass cloth and acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive. Also known as Fiberglass Cloth Acrylic Adhesive Tape or Acrylic Fiberglass Tape, it combines mechanical reinforcement with durable adhesive attachment.
The product is intended for panel seam covering, reinforced wrapping, motor-coil outer wrapping, transformer lead protection and wire-harness abrasion protection. Application-specific grades can be evaluated for aerospace insulation-panel sealing.
Compared with silicone adhesive glass cloth tape, this product uses a different adhesive system and must be selected according to its own temperature, aging and bonding performance. It is primarily a durable bonding and protection tape rather than a universal temporary masking tape.
2. Product Construction
Backing: Woven fiberglass cloth.
Adhesive: Acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive.
Adhesive side: Single-sided.
Principal color: White.
Surface: Woven textile with grade-dependent backing treatment.
Release format: Self-wound or liner-backed, according to the selected construction.
Optional converting: Slit rolls, sheets, strips, patches and die-cut parts.
A comparable acrylic glass cloth construction has approximately 0.13 mm backing thickness and 0.18 mm total tape thickness. These are comparable-construction references, not verified Nomay layer specifications.
Total thickness excludes the removable release liner. Adhesive-layer thickness and tolerances must be confirmed for the selected model rather than calculated from unrelated nominal values.
3. Backing & Adhesive System
The fiberglass backing provides mechanical support and helps resist abrasion, puncture and handling damage. Its flexibility allows wrapping around suitable leads, cable bundles and component contours.
Acrylic adhesive supports durable attachment and resistance to aging on compatible metals, coatings and insulation materials. Actual initial tack, peel adhesion and long-term holding performance depend on the formulation and substrate.
Backing treatment and adhesive coverage affect varnish wetting and resin penetration. The product must be evaluated with the actual insulating varnish, impregnation resin and curing cycle.
An acrylic adhesive designation does not establish that the entire tape is silicone-free. Strict silicone restrictions require review of the backing treatment, liner and converting process.
4. Available Specifications

5. Key Features & Buyer Benefits
• Fiberglass reinforcement supports protection where unsupported film may provide insufficient mechanical strength.
• Acrylic adhesive supports durable bonding and aging resistance for suitable permanent applications.
• Flexible cloth follows component contours and panel edges.
• Liner-backed formats support controlled placement and repeatable die cutting.
• Custom widths and shapes reduce onsite trimming.
• Application-specific flame-retardant constructions can be requested against defined criteria.
• Reinforced wrapping can combine supplementary insulation with abrasion protection when electrical suitability is established.
6. Application Procedure
Step 1 — Identify the application, substrate, surface coating, geometry and permanent or removable attachment requirement.
Step 2 — Select backing treatment, adhesive grade, thickness, width, roll length and liner or converted format.
Step 3 — Define continuous and peak temperatures, exposure time, humidity, mechanical load and any dielectric, varnish or flame requirements.
Step 4 — Prepare slit rolls or die-cut parts to the approved dimensions. Confirm overlap and edge coverage for wrapping or sealing.
Step 5 — Apply to clean, dry surfaces using firm, uniform pressure. Avoid contamination, wrinkles, trapped air and unsupported edges.
Step 6 — Validate adhesion and retained performance after the actual thermal, moisture and aging cycle. For removal, assess peel temperature, direction, speed, residue and substrate damage.
7. Application Industries
• Motor and transformer manufacturing.
• Wire-harness and cable assembly.
• Industrial equipment and appliance manufacturing.
• Transportation equipment.
• Aerospace panel and insulation assembly, subject to project-specific acceptance.
• Adhesive converting and precision die cutting.
8. Application Scenarios / Problems Solved
Panel Seams and Edges
Apply to compatible panel joints or edges where mechanical reinforcement and durable coverage are needed. Confirm coating adhesion, joint movement and moisture exposure. Cloth reinforcement alone does not establish a waterproof seal or aerospace approval.
Motor and Transformer Wrapping
Use for outer coil wrapping, lead protection and supplementary insulation where the selected grade fits the assembly. Confirm temperature, working voltage, layer arrangement, varnish and cure conditions. A tape temperature reference does not establish an insulation-system class.
Wire-Harness Protection
Wrap areas exposed to rubbing and handling damage. Confirm cable-jacket compatibility, plasticizers, curvature and aging. Adhesion on one jacket material does not establish suitability for all wiring systems.
Converted Insulation Parts
Use liner-backed strips or patches for controlled placement. Confirm dimensions, release behavior, dielectric requirements and installation pressure. Die cutting does not establish electrical performance.
9. Performance & Operating Conditions
Temperature
A comparable acrylic glass cloth sealing product has a published -29°C to 121°C service reference. This is not a verified Nomay rating. Confirm continuous temperature, peak exposure, duration, cycling and required service life for the selected grade.
Adhesion
Specify substrate, specimen width, peel method, application pressure and dwell time. Evaluate adhesion after heat and moisture exposure where relevant.
Electrical and Varnish Performance
Confirm dielectric performance in the intended insulation system. Test varnish wetting and cure compatibility on the complete tape.
Environmental and Flame Performance
Weathering and moisture resistance are construction-dependent. A woven surface is not a sealed waterproof membrane. Flame requirements apply to the complete backing and adhesive system.
Removal
Durable acrylic bonding may leave residue after aging. Clean removal is not universally guaranteed.
10. Comparison & Selection Guide
Choose acrylic glass cloth for reinforced durable bonding when its aging and temperature performance meet the application.
Evaluate silicone adhesive glass cloth for higher-temperature processing or different removal requirements, using the selected grade's data.
Choose film-backed tape for a thinner or smoother surface. Choose double-sided tape when both components require adhesive attachment.
For aerospace sealing, select a documented construction against the required specification rather than relying on the product family name.
11. Important Selection Notes + Technical Notes / FAQ
