1. Product Overview
Nomay Glass Cloth High Temperature Tape is a single-sided tape combining woven fiberglass cloth with silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive.
Common purchasing names include fiberglass cloth tape, silicone adhesive glass cloth tape and glass cloth electrical insulation tape.
The woven backing supports coil wrapping, lead fixation and mechanical protection in suitable motor, transformer and wire-harness applications. Select the complete construction against temperature, electrical requirements, abrasion and installation conditions.
2. Product Construction
Backing: Woven fiberglass cloth.
Adhesive: Silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive.
Adhesive side: Single-sided.
Colors: White or black.
Formats: Self-wound rolls, optional liner-backed rolls and custom die-cut parts.
A representative construction is approximately 0.14 mm glass cloth plus 0.04 mm silicone adhesive, giving approximately 0.18 mm finished thickness.
This example describes one construction within the available range. It does not establish the layer thicknesses of every version.
The product does not include the additional silicone-rubber protective layer found in silicone-rubber-coated fiberglass tapes.

Dimensions and performance ranges cover product-family options. Not every thickness, width and length combination is available in one construction.

Woven Reinforcement
The fiberglass backing provides mechanical reinforcement for suitable wrapping and securing applications.
Abrasion Protection
The cloth surface helps protect selected wires and components from contact wear. Performance depends on contact pressure, movement and the opposing surface.

The construction can provide electrical separation when selected and validated against the finished assembly requirements.
Heat-Resistant Adhesion
Silicone adhesive supports fixation during suitable elevated-temperature use. Exposure time and loading must be confirmed.
Conformable Wrapping
The woven construction follows suitable coil and harness shapes when applied with controlled tension and overlap.
Custom Converting
Slit rolls and die-cut pieces support repeated lead anchors, reinforcement patches and insulation locations.
5. Motor and Transformer Applications
Motor-Coil Wrapping
Use suitable constructions for outer wrapping, end-turn protection and localized reinforcement. Confirm winding geometry, tension, temperature and electrical requirements.
Lead Fixation
Secure compatible leads or insulation pieces where adhesive holding and cloth reinforcement suit the design. Evaluate lifting and movement after thermal aging.
Transformer Applications
Selected grades may support outer wrapping, coil termination and other specified insulation locations. Layer or crossover insulation requires evaluation within the actual insulation system.
Varnish and Resin Processes
Woven glass cloth may interact with insulating varnish, but adhesive coating can affect penetration and bonding. Validate the complete tape with the actual varnish, impregnation and curing process.
6. Harness and Industrial Protection
Wire-Harness Wrapping
Selected constructions provide abrasion protection and retention around suitable harness sections. Confirm flexibility, bend radius, wire-insulation compatibility and thermal cycling.
Automotive and Equipment Wiring
Evaluate the actual fluids, vibration, humidity and expected service life. A general glass cloth construction does not establish an automotive qualification.
Industrial Masking
Temporary heat-process protection may be evaluated where the woven surface and removal behavior are acceptable.
This ordinary adhesive glass cloth tape is not automatically suitable for direct flame, welding spatter, plasma spray or HVOF masking. Those applications require dedicated protective constructions.
7. Temperature and Service Conditions
The available temperature-resistance range is 220–300°C.
Confirm the exact model, component temperature, exposure time, heating cycles, mechanical load and removal or permanent-service requirements.
This range does not establish continuous operation at 300°C or an electrical-insulation thermal class.
The glass fibers' heat capability must not be used as the finished adhesive tape rating. Adhesion, flexibility and electrical performance must remain suitable after the specified exposure.
For long-term motor or transformer use, evaluate the tape within the complete insulation system.
8. Electrical and Mechanical Validation
Electrical Performance
Confirm breakdown performance using the selected thickness, conditioning and test method. A breakdown result does not directly establish the permissible working voltage of the assembly.
Mechanical Performance
Evaluate abrasion, tensile loading, puncture and edge damage under the actual application conditions. Woven reinforcement does not make every version stronger than every film-backed tape.
Holding Performance
Peel adhesion alone does not establish long-term retention. Evaluate creep, lifting and movement where the tape secures loaded components.
Cut Edges
Slit fiberglass edges can fray or release fibers. Low-fray or edge-controlled versions may be requested where handling or cleanliness requires them.
Flame-retardant or specifically recognized electrical versions may be requested, subject to construction and supporting-document confirmation.
9. Application Procedure
Identify the substrate, electrical requirements and complete thermal process.
Clean and dry the application surface using a compatible method.
Wrap or apply with controlled tension and uniform pressure. Avoid damaged wire insulation, sharp unprotected edges and excessive stretching.
Use the overlap and number of layers specified by the assembly design rather than a universal wrapping rule.
Run samples through the actual thermal, varnish, chemical or vibration cycle.
Inspect adhesion, edge condition, movement and electrical performance before approving production use.
10. Permanent Use and Temporary Removal
For permanent wrapping, prioritize aging, retention, insulation compatibility and mechanical protection.
For temporary masking, evaluate removal after the complete process. Silicone adhesive does not guarantee residue-free removal from every surface.
Check for adhesive transfer, backing damage and fiber release. Removal requirements must be stated before the adhesive grade is selected.
Printed identification and liner-backed formats may be requested. Confirm ink durability and liner release where they affect processing.
11. Comparison, Handling and Storage
Glass Cloth and PET or PI Film Tape
Choose woven cloth where reinforcement and wrapping performance are priorities. Smooth film constructions may better suit thin sections and precise masking edges.
Single-Sided and Double-Sided Glass Cloth Tape
This product has adhesive on one side. Double-sided bonding requires a separately specified construction.
Ordinary Glass Cloth and Silicone-Rubber-Coated Glass Cloth
The latter includes an additional protective layer and requires separate parameters and application assessment.
Store unused rolls in original packaging in a clean, dry environment. Follow the confirmed storage conditions and shelf life, and protect adhesive surfaces and cut edges.
