1. Product Overview
Nomay Plain Weave Fiberglass Tape is a narrow woven E-glass textile without pressure-sensitive adhesive. Common names include Woven Glass Fiber Tape, Non-Adhesive Fiberglass Cloth Tape and Glass Fabric Reinforcement Tape.
The product is intended for localized composite reinforcement, seam and edge reinforcement, component winding and separately secured protective wrapping. Thermal and electrical applications require selection of an appropriate textile grade.
The word “tape” describes the narrow format. This is not self-adhesive glass cloth tape or open-mesh drywall joint tape.
2. Product Construction
Base material: E-glass fiberglass yarn.
Weave: Plain weave.
Adhesive: None.
Adhesive side: Not applicable.
Standard color: White or off-white.
Surface: Woven textile with grade-dependent yarn sizing or finish.
Edges: Woven selvedges or another specified edge construction.
Release liner: Not normally required for the standard non-adhesive product.
The plain weave alternates warp and weft yarns over and under each other. Equal strength in both directions must not be assumed without the yarn and fabric specification.
Yarn sizing may be present even when the textile is described as uncoated.
3. Backing & Adhesive System
Fiberglass provides mechanical reinforcement and dimensional stability. The narrow woven form helps position reinforcement around seams, pipes and curved components.
The absence of pressure-sensitive adhesive allows installation using a compatible resin, mechanical fastening, stitching or another separately designed attachment method.
For composite reinforcement, select sizing or finish compatible with the epoxy, polyester or vinyl ester resin and curing process. For thermal wrapping, evaluate the finish and retained strength under heat.
Choose a separately specified adhesive glass cloth tape if pressure-sensitive bonding is required.
4. Available Specifications
Model: NM-GF-PW.
Fiber: E-glass.
Weave: Plain weave.
Adhesive: None.
Thickness reference: Approximately 0.18 mm for a comparable plain-weave construction.
Adhesive thickness: Not applicable.
Width: Custom specification, with edge construction defined.
Roll length: Specified to order.
Color: White or off-white.
Liner: Not required for the standard structure.
Formats: Rolls, cut strips and cut pieces according to converting capability.
Sheet or patch dimensions: Confirm where required.
Weave count, sizing, edge quality and dimensional tolerances: Confirm by selected grade.
Final specification must be confirmed for the selected Nomay model. The reference thickness is not a guaranteed Nomay value or stock declaration.
5. Key Features & Buyer Benefits
• Narrow reinforcement reduces the need to cut strips from wider fabric.
• Plain weave supports controlled placement and fabric stability.
• Fiberglass reinforcement distributes load in a properly designed laminate.
• Flexible strips follow suitable curved surfaces.
• Woven selvedges help control unraveling along the sides.
• Compatible sizing supports resin wet-out.
• Custom widths and lengths reduce trimming and installation waste.
• Non-adhesive construction allows the attachment method to match the application.
6. Application Procedure
Step 1 — Identify the component, wrapping or reinforcement location, contact materials and environment.
Step 2 — Select weave, thickness, width, length, sizing and edge construction.
Step 3 — Define mechanical load, electrical requirements, temperature, exposure time, chemical contact and resin or fastening requirements.
Step 4 — Cut or position the textile without unnecessary fiber damage. Plan overlap, layer count and attachment locations.
Step 5 — Secure by the approved resin, stitching, clamps, ties or mechanical retention. Overlap alone does not replace proper end retention. For laminates, control resin wet-out and curing.
Step 6 — Validate the finished assembly under actual loading, temperature, humidity, voltage or chemical conditions before production.
7. Application Industries
• Composite fabrication.
• Pipe, tank and component manufacturing.
• Electrical equipment assembly.
• Industrial insulation fabrication.
• Machinery maintenance.
• Marine and transportation composite fabrication, where the selected design is suitable.
• Textile converting and reinforcement-part supply.
8. Application Scenarios / Problems Solved
Composite Seams and Edges
Place reinforcement over a laminate seam or edge to add local layers without using full-width cloth. Confirm resin compatibility, fiber direction, overlap and structural requirements. Added tape alone does not establish a rated structural repair.
Pipe and Component Winding
Wrap narrow strips around a suitable component for reinforcement or protective coverage. Confirm diameter, overlap and retention. Resin-impregnated winding and dry mechanical wrapping are different assemblies.
Cable Protection
Use as supplementary textile coverage where mechanical or electrical requirements are verified. Confirm voltage, moisture, layer arrangement and fastening. Fiberglass material alone does not establish a finished insulation rating.
Thermal Fabrication
Use a suitable grade in heat-exposed textile assemblies. Confirm thickness, finish, exposure time and retained strength. Thin plain-weave reinforcement must not be treated as thick textured exhaust insulation or a compressible gasket.
9. Performance & Operating Conditions
Temperature
The yarn, sizing, finish, duration and mechanical load determine usable performance. Heating may affect the finish or retained strength before the glass softens. A general 550°C fiberglass claim is not an established continuous rating for this tape.
Mechanical Performance
Specify finished-tape breaking force, direction, specimen width and test method. A fiber-level MPa value must not be used as the strength of the woven strip.
Resin Compatibility
Evaluate wet-out, fiber-to-resin bonding, cure temperature and the complete laminate.
Environmental Performance
The weave is porous and is not a waterproof or vapor-tight barrier. Chemical compatibility depends on concentration, temperature and exposure duration.
Handling
Selvedges limit side-edge unraveling, but cut ends and damaged areas may release fibers.
10. Comparison & Selection Guide
Choose this non-adhesive textile for resin reinforcement or separately secured wrapping.
Choose adhesive glass cloth for pressure-sensitive attachment.
Choose textured thermal tape where insulation bulk or compressibility is required.
Choose fiberglass sleeving where tubular coverage and access to a component end suit installation.
For gasket applications, select a material with the required compression, recovery and leakage performance.
11. Important Selection Notes + Technical Notes / FAQ
A. Important Selection Notes
• Reference thickness does not establish inventory or tolerances.
• Confirm sizing for heat exposure or resin compatibility.
• Plain weave does not automatically mean equal warp and weft strength.
• A porous textile is not a waterproof seal.
• Thermal and electrical performance belong to the selected assembly.
• Structural reinforcement requires an appropriate design.
B. Technical Notes / FAQ
Does the tape contain adhesive?
No. The standard product is non-adhesive.
Does it need release paper?
Normally no, because there is no pressure-sensitive adhesive to protect.
Can it be used with epoxy?
Select a compatible sizing or finish and validate the cure process.
Can it continuously operate at 550°C?
That rating has not been established for the selected Nomay construction.
Will woven edges prevent all fraying?
No. Cut ends and damaged areas can still release fibers.
12. Inquiry Requirements / Request a Quote
