1. Product Overview

The Air Grip Union (also known as Pneumatic Tire Union ) is a specialized quick-connect pipe fitting engineered for low-pressure, large-diameter pipeline connections where frequent disassembly and significant pipe misalignment are common. Unlike traditional hammer unions that require precise alignment and hammering, the Air Grip Union uses an inflatable rubber tire (air bag) inside a steel shell. When inflated with compressed air, the tire expands uniformly to create a tight, leak-proof seal around the outer surface of the pipe. When deflated, the seal releases within seconds, allowing instant disconnection.

This design is particularly vital in drilling fluid solid control systems, where mud tanks must be frequently connected and repositioned. Each time mud tanks are moved or reinstalled on site, their relative positions change significantly. The Air Grip Union’s ability to accommodate large misalignment without compromising sealing performance makes it the preferred solution for these demanding applications.

5. Installation & Usage Tips

Pipe Preparation: Ensure the outer surface of the pipe is clean, smooth, and free from sharp edges that may damage the pneumatic tire.

Positioning: Insert the pipe into the union until it reaches the proper depth. The air grip union can accommodate significant misalignment – simply position it as close as possible.

Inflation: Connect an air supply and inflate the tire. The seal will form within 1–3 seconds. Recommended inflation pressure should not exceed the specified maximum.

Connection: Once inflated, the union is securely sealed and ready for fluid transfer.

Disconnection: When disconnecting, simply open the air valve to deflate – the tire will recover to its original shape within 1–3 seconds, allowing easy pipe removal.
